Michelle Brusuelas + Art
Artist Statement:

When I was a child I attended a birthday party where I discovered a dead blue bird in the bushes. Intrigued, I carefully placed it in my palm and presented it to the adults. Startled, they asked me to drop it and wash my hands. This was a point of confusion because I thought that bird was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. My awe was diminished by a sense of gravity that there were some things others believed we should not touch. I keep coming back to that bird in one way or another.

Liminal space compels me. A large part of my work explores a presence related to transformation, crossing over, materializations, and surprises found through travel that forever change the journeyer. Primitive elements are never far from the subject creating both an anchor and mystery.
